Time

Time

A Poem by Mehar Anaokar

Why did our ancestors measure time?
Because all that we do is escape it
We complain about how it slips through our grasp
Complaint being a way to waste it

Why doesn't it come with a manual
That tells us how to skip and to stop
How to stretch it, eke it, draw it out
And how to add a pause?

Vita Brevis, they say
If only we could change that
If only we could slow it down
Thereby altering its format

Why can't we skip a chapter
Or rewind to the good old days
And if we find a moment of happiness
Why can't we make it stay?

Why can't we let time be?
And let it run its course
Instead of all this wishful thinking
Maybe we should let it go.

Well if they hadn't measured time (and thus worked out the best 'time' to plant and harvest) then you wouldn't be writing this - probably...lol

I like the way you've threaded the theme throughout and used both literal and loose takes on 'time' to conjure a good philosophical piece here Mehar Anaokar
:))
