Naughts and Crosses

Naughts and Crosses

A Poem by Mellany

In a world of naughts and crosses

is marked an asterix.

It hides in the skeleton of the leaf,

in the backbone of the meat.

It sits on the soft earth

supporting the weight of you

yet all you see is a wavering shadow.

A sparrow chants of love and loss

and animates the day

but who will sing for the sparrow?
