To My Dear and Loving Riley

To My Dear and Loving Riley

A Poem by Darby Rae
"

This is me again talking to the younger version of myself, this time named Riley. Its essentially me telling her that i have to leave my childhood behind and move on in my life.

"

If ever I could see you again, Riley dear

If ever I should once again have you so near

If ever you would ask your future, don’t fret,

I can take your guesses, but not your bets.

Riley I know you, so much has changed

And sometimes you slip and forget to behave.

I recall your long days spent in the park,

Playing alone outside until it was dark.

Now home by five, I hope you realize how time flies,

We’ve grown up now and I can’t hold in my cries,

Because now I have lost you Riley dear

We have given up on each other over the years.

So it’s time to say one last time,

I’m going now and I have to leave you behind
