The child Cries

The child Cries

A Poem by Darby Rae

The child cries

As she stands in the rain

Standing in shattered glass

From the church she just escaped

She prays to god

To give her what she’s lost

But not a soul is returned

Nothing is given back

She cries for her empty hands

And falls down to her knees

For her brother is gone

And together her family weeps

As they take him to his grave

No time can heal this loss

For now life only brings pain

Her black dress is torn from all her rage

      “Why him, not I

Why do I still stand today?

Now I am alone

He left me behind

And in such pain”

She can hardly stand to say

That time was hard to keep

When every moment was wasted

On memories not worth the grief

She can see the Carless peers

Walking by each day

“he was just so young

A shame to have his life thrown away”

Whispers spoken of such sorrow

She wonders how shell live tomorrow

Now she just wants to get away

So she packed her bags and left today

Baby steps for a baby sister

Each glide never filled with laughter

But guided on forever after

A powerful flow of emotion and ink. This speaks to me of the intense bond formed between a girl and her older brother and how when the tie is severed by God, the pain that it brings. Your ink sets the stage, defines the moment and the memories and gives us a pathway to watch the sunset, to where ever it may go. A well woven piece of poetry. I like how the spoken words are struck apart from the rest, it allows them to really stand out and resonate with the reader.

Wonderful ink! Thanks for sharing.
