Wasted Time

Wasted Time

A Poem by Merancapeman
"

This poem describes how often we find that the unrequited love is often the most heartbreaking, especially when they call you a "friend." Is it wasted time? Or a wasted heart.

"
She was tired and dramatic and so much alone
Next to me and her stories and text-ridden phone
That she used to send Stephen her last minute thoughts
When she lost all the love she gained after she fought
For an hour in a storm of emotion and tears
And she never thought once, not in all of those years
That he'd leave her behind
And she wasted all her time

She sobbed right in front of me wishing that things could be
Slightly more easy, and so much less queasy
Than taking the Ford to a chinsy new bar
So I'd watch her get drunk and take her and her car
To her house and her cat and her smelly brown rug
And drink hard lemonaid from a dust-covered mug
And she left me behind
As I wasted all my time

I considered my options and found I had none
Every instant consoling, my heart weighed a ton
And yet here we are talking of how he betrayed her
Although I had said better sooner than later
I left her alone with my heart in my head
And I went to my room just to cry in my bed
I had left her behind
Now I have no time

And now Suzy left Jacob and Jacob hooked up
With a sleez he had met at a cheap stripper club
And old Kingsly moved in with the love of his life
And all my ex lovers became happy wives
And I watch and I wait for my chance to appeal
But no one is coming and slowly I feel
Like I've been left behind
They've wasted all my time

I make time for people and every day
Is the same plastered drama crap paper mache
Covered lie ridden hopeless and thoughtless old hunk
Of a piece of a soul locked away in a trunk
In a dampened old attic where no human goes
'Cause they made the excuse and nobody need knows
That they left it behind
'Cause it wasted their time.

And they leave me behind
When I've wasted their time.
