The 12th day on which he left

The 12th day on which he left

A Poem by Mercedes Diamond

When the doors are shut

And the lights start to fade

My hand takes yours

Thinking of that day

That day that you’ll leave

Overseas without me

Our love still beating

Throbbing, in need

In need of assistance

And close, intimate care

I’ll always be there

You’ll always be there

The realization when you said the 12th

Was a pain indescribable, a pain we can’t help

I knew you’d be leaving, I knew you’d be gone

I knew that I’d hurt, but we have a bond

We have a bond that can’t shatter and won’t break

No matter what happens I’ll handle this ache

I’ll stay by your side, and support your every move

Because baby what I do, I do for you

I respect your sacrifice and I’m proud of you

Like I have said, we’re a bond; we’re a glue

I’ll never hold the hand of another man

Because that other man just isn’t you.

I still feel your hands and the breath that you breathe

The sound of your heart beating for me

When we kiss I don’t see what others might see

Because to me, you’re all I see

Nice poem. I like the lines:
We have a bond that can't shatter and won't break
No matter what happens I'll handle this ache...
Well penned.
