further and further from home

further and further from home

A Poem by Dennis A. Clark

the sun shines hot and flat
while we drive through
an empty town
with squat buildings
and traffic lights on wires
like black-eyed guardians
the crows look down on us
and laugh their horrible laughs
as we move further and further from home

This took me straight to those ghost towns we sometimes see in Hollywood horror movies. Very eerie.

I can see that, yes. Crows do seem to conspire, don't they?

Yes. Those were the lines that took me to the horror town in the first place. Crows...very symbolic .. read more
interesting.....although it was very simplistic I could picture the scene very clearly. I interpret this poem as saying...."I'm leaving home and there is nothing to keep me from not wanting to leave." :)

I like your interpretation, Holly.
Dennis, this seems like the beggining of something much more. I am left wanting to know what happens next. Very nice, but...what happens???

I like your take-away.

I'm starting with flash poems here: morsels.
