I Ask For Nothing More

I Ask For Nothing More

A Poem by Michael W. Farrelly
"

Poem for a certain woman....

"

I ask for nothing more

than all that that look promised

so many months before

when you removed those glasses.

I dreamt of your jaw for a day or two

Instinctually suspicous, but unaware

Of all the bitter truths it clamped down tight upon.

I ask for nothing more than that you hold your haïr back

and show the beauty of the girl

becoming a child

becoming a woman

becoming mine. Your hair,

like a veil covering shadows of a past

that might now lay across a future

undimmed in your eyes,

burning in mine,

to live for,

to kill for.

Yes, I ask for nothing more

than everything

or nothing

any more.
