Christmas Tree

Christmas Tree

A Poem by Michael Iam Bone
"

This poem is about the origin of the Christmas tree, and how it was the result of the Pagans and the Christians coming to a compromise of mixing cultural practices to convert the Pagans peacefully.

"

The Christmas tree, so shiny and

Bright, in memory of Gaul's terrible

Might. Who pillaged all in the dead

Of night, and raped our daughters,

Unable to fight.

How the Gauls put our heads on

Top of all the trees, and wrapped all

Of our entrails 'round the branches

While we freeze.

Through a deal with the pagans

To convert them without war, now

The Christians do the same, just

With trinkets ‘stead of gore.
