This Darkness

This Darkness

A Poem by Michael Iam Bone
"

This poem is about our own darkness.

"
Can you see this darkness inside of me?...
Please listen to my words...
I hunger. I thirst. What food can satisfy?
A beggar on the streets I know tomorrow I could die.
How can I live life in contempt if I must starve each day?
I seek salvation-- Answer me! Just how long must I pray?!...
I walk alone, across the barren plains,
An everlasting shadow of the man I want to be.
As a prisoner of darkness, I long to be set free...
But, what I fail to realize... is that darkness is me...
My shackles made me stronger.
My scars made me learn.
Yet still they make it longer.
Yet still they make it burn.
But never against my own free will.
But always against my desire.
How can this leave such a chill,
To be tested by such a fire?...
I am my greatest ally.
I am my greatest enemy.
I am my greatest teacher.
I am my greatest deceiver.
I am my greatest emanation.
I am my greatest downfall.
I am my greatest potential...
This darkness... can you see it?
..."We create our own demons."
