Driftwood

Driftwood

A Poem by Michael X

This poem is a shipwreck that was

abandoned to its fate many years ago,

most of the words have been stripped away

and carried out to sea

by stormy weather and pounding waves

that break up the decaying form,

now nothing but fragments remain.

But on rare mornings

the outgoing tide has been known to

leave a piece of this old poem behind

for beachcombers that walk the shoreline

collecting words and driftwood.

I love this. I saw Portuguese lifeguards patrolling a beach - more interested in beachcombing (for amber) than saving lives - or perhaps they were trying to piece poems together. Awesome imagination Michael X.

-To any lifeguards out there - I think you guys do a wonderful job - don't leave me out there ffs!

Michael X,
"A shipwreck abandoned to its fate" "words stripped away" by "stormy waves, pounding seas" fragments remain. These words of yours remind me of Life experiences so real and shining then forgotten with time and the lessons experienced simply pass into forgetfulness........... But then "fragments remain." and "rare mornings to "leave a piece of this old poem behind." This was a satisfying pondering thing. I loved it and found myself comforted within the reality of memories of my own and the joy of lessons and experiences. We all understand this kind of reality of humanity. Wonderful poem you have shared. Kathy.

This is an interesting metaphor you use here! To me it seems we dump our feelings in words leaving it on the shore for it to be washed away in the depths of the sea.. Excellent imagery here!

Love the imagery..should know be known ? Or was that on purpose? Off to beach comb for inspiration..

This simply beautiful. It needs no fancy words or reviews, just viewers, truths, and embraced emotion.

Thank you friend, your words mean a lot to me!
Very cool analogy - poem with shipwreck. Like the way you developed the thought and where you took it. Great ending. Cool title. An overall creative write. Well done.

Hey Pete, I appreciate the kind review!
For the million words we once had, only a few remain.
So pretty and satisfying, knowing that the beachcombers may find some.
Thank you!

wow....yes, pieces of us left behind and washed ashore...we are the poem...fragments of our lives---

we float, we wreck, we recover some pieces, we sail again.
