Why to opt for the International Baccalaureate Programme?

Why to opt for the International Baccalaureate Programme?

A Story by Michael Harley

The best schools in Gurgaon may be affiliated to any education board - CBSE, ISC or IB Diploma Programme. And parents of young children can decide upon the right institution according to their own priorities.  For the senior students in Classes 9th and above however, the decision is usually a personal choice. If they are studying in a CBSE school, they may at some point of time decide to change their board as per their plans for college education and eventual career aspirations.

While most students are familiar with the respective merits of studying in CBSE and ISC schools, the finer details of International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum are largely unknown.  When teachers at top IB schools in Gurgaon are asked the benefits of this programme and they usually mention four ways in which IB education shapes students’ overall development:

It transforms students into global-minded learners

On interacting with IB Diploma programme students, it becomes evident that they are internationally shaped individuals. They develop a dynamic identity and understand the multiple aspects of world around them. Such students can embrace their own culture and are also open to learning about other cultures and opinions. They willingly explore global issues, are keen to learn new languages and develop skills to live cordially with others.

They become independent

Pupils taking up IB Diploma programme in top international schools in Gurgaon have been observed to be curious learners for life. They take deep interest in their daily schedules and are trained to make informed decisions as they go through the learning process. They continually evolve and keep sharpening their vision with newest academic research studies. Such students build their own roadmap and are ready to successfully take their journey forward. They have the courage to embark upon a path that may be unknown and still seems familiar.

The course is comprehensive, nourishing and evolves with time

IB Diploma Programme may look challenging and rigorous to some but it brings out the best of creativity and innovative spirit in students. The curriculum does not compromise on the depth of theoretical knowledge but opens new paths of enrichment with globally acknowledged, criterion-referenced evaluations benchmarked to help students think critically and not just recall rote content. IB schools assess what is important to assess and not what is simple to assess.

The courses and evaluations are also reviewed constantly so that they can advance to suit changing patterns of higher education, IT, global inter-connectivity and careers. Students have a variety of subjects throughout their study programme and learn to connect them on different platforms. They can see the interrelationship of knowledge and experience across different domains.

Students learn to give back to their community

Students of IB schools students actively participate in and contribute to, their school environment, the local community that surrounds them and also their global community. For IB students, it is a way of life to feel for their surroundings and even think beyond it. They love to give out to the society by volunteering at NGOs, and participating in activities such as tree plantations, street cleaning, animal care and social awareness campaigns among others.
