Dang, I Forgot It Again

“Is it you birthday again, how old are you now? I can’t believe I forgot it again.”

“It’s alright Dad, you can try again next year. I’m 26 this year, getting ta be an old lady ya know.”

“Sure, Shoulda remembered that. How old’s your older sister now?”

“She was 28 this past May. You forgot her birthday too, just in case you wanted to know.”

“May, she was born in May, but I thought it was in July.”

“No Dad, that’s your wife’s birthday.”

“Jamie’s birthday, guess that explains why she was mad at me all summer.”

“Don’t worry about it Dad, you also forgot your anniversary, Christmas, Thanksgiving, and both your grandson’s birthdays, Oh, and your Mom’s birthday too.”

“Dang, I forgot IT again, seems we just celebrated it last year.”

“Some of us did Dad. You were out riding your Harley.”

“Harley, I have a Harley? How old did you say you were again?”

“Yes Dad, and for the last time; I’m 26.

 Hey Dad,”

“What?”

“I love you.”

"Dang, I forgot it again"
M.E. Lyle,
Your portrayal is right on. For those which have loved ones who are losing themselves; forgetting who they are and who they have been this poem speaks.
The patient conversation of the grown young man with his papa is so wonderful! He gently and patiently reminds and repeats the answers to his loved ones words. Words like this are affirming and correct to the essence of the human soul
You wrapped it up perfectly!
""Hey Dad,"
"What?"
"I love you."
That's what it's all about.

Blessings,
Kathy
