The monkey that only I could understand

The monkey that only I could understand

A Poem by MikeV

The monkey that only I could understand
I didn't know if I should categorize this as a poem or a story. I chose poem, what else are poems but beautifully written stories?
Some years back, I bought an ipod touch. I was quickly addicted to writing in the "notes." I'd write anytime inspiration hit. Somewhere around the three thousand note mark, a nightmare happened.
My ipod with all my writings broke. It fell out of my pocket and got ran over. I never got to backup my writings. It was all gone, all my thoughts, all my dreams, everything, all gone.
It's been about a year since I wrote. Writerscafe inspired me to write again. It wasn't the same, I still couldn't write whenever I wanted. I decided to meditate and go into a lucid dream state of mind.
From there i'd ask my spirit guide for the answer. Finally, I became lucid. I immediately asked for the answer to my question, "what do I do? I want to write again but I can't buy another ipod right now."
As I waited for an answer, a little monkey came out of nowhere. I talked to it and asked it how it could help me. It told me it would be there whenever I needed it. Then it was gone. I awoke and didn't
think much of it. I went about my day like any other. My wife, myself, and our three kids were invited to go eat at my aunts. When we arrived my cousin was there to greet us. She looked at me with a smile
and says she has something for me. She tells me that she knows how much I missed my ipod, so she got me a new one. She said she knew how much I loved to write. She then told me to close my eyes, I did. When
she told me to open them, I was awe stricken. It was a case to go around the ipod. The case? A monkey. The monkey that only I could understand.
