Under Your Skin

Under Your Skin

A Poem by Mimozi

Verse 1

The other day, I saw you saw me

It’s been a while, a long, long while

I saw you stumble and ignore me

I watched a while, just for a while

Verse 2

Denial helps, when reason fails us

Or so I hear, I hear of late

And guilt still burns, if you ignore it

Yeah guilt still burns, that’s what I said

Chorus:

That bitter taste at the back of your throat

That stubborn stain on your favourite shirt

I didn’t change you and your ways

Just stood and watched you fall from grace

Verse 3

I heard that you are back on track

A track to where, to where I wonder

I’ve seen your vision turning black

I’ve seen you turn, I made you turn

Verse 4

Brute force I told you ain’t my thing

Now wipe the blood and let’s get clean

Those midnight visions I still bring

They make you turn, you’ll never learn.

Chorus:

That bitter taste at the back of your throat

That stubborn stain on your favourite shirt

I didn’t change you and your ways

Just stood and watched you fall from grace

Bridge:

It’s strange to see you so entangled

No strings attached, remember honey

It’s me you thought you left for strangled

Now look at you, well ain’t that funny

Chorus: (x2)

That bitter taste at the back of your throat

That stubborn stain on your favourite shirt

I didn’t change you and your ways

Just stood and watched you fall from grace

Outro: (x3)

Deep under your skin

You’ll never be clean

The lyrics formed a tune in my head as I read them. Then I found myself sayin' the last bit of chorus. Proving difficult to get out of my head.

And here I don't normally enjoy these sorts of things.

Gritty effective work. You have music for it too?

I'm a singer-songwriter-guitarist, and I've posted whole songs in the playlist player here, besides the lyrics being posted as poems too. You may find 'em interesting.

A sober cautionary saga of turnabout: You're gonna meet the same one or ones on the way down as on the way up, so be cool. Good work.
