Some things are just not meant to be ... we never forget .. we learn to live with it.

You are the reflection of my past
A story that was never meant to last 

Just the one I needed to have for life 
You're the road I so much needed to feel alive

You're the sweet memory that warms my heart
You're the kindness in my life although far apart

You'll never be mine .. although you once were 
I'll never be with you .. but it's only fair 

It's enough to know your life knows happiness 
Even if my life is made of such emptiness ..

I wish you the best with your lovely wife
Your choice made to last for life

I wish you happiness in the eyes of your children now and yet to be
And if you by any chance happen to think of me 

You should know that somewhere within me
There will always be a special place for you to be

I know this feeling exactly. Bittersweet, and then agony. You want to be glad for him that he has found a wife and family .. you want him to be happy.. (maybe you tell your self that is what you want BUT) and you realize you are still alone and hurting.... ugh.. I love this poem.. it dredges up all those feelings and more... awesome job I really like the images with it also.

the thoughtful road taken. If it's not meant to be, railing against fate does nothing but hurt. Better to let go, and love in its sense: wanting what is best, what makes them happy, for those we love. Very thoughtful poem.

Thank you Mark .. you're right sometimes we just need to let go knowing that holding on to something gone is desperate and will only lead to a dead end and failure.

Lol ... Hey Ron .. no don't worry .. it's normal that some writings especially poems would inspire us to write something back .. I just did the same thing to a poem called Ashen ... I replied in another poem very short but using the same expression the poet had used but instead of him using I planted you ... I said he planted me ...... and it turned out just fine ... lol ........
