Farm Girl in a Land of Concrete and Steel

Farm Girl in a Land of Concrete and Steel

A Poem by MiriamMB
"

the problem of finding happiness in hostile territory

"

Can we

ever find

forgiveness

happy hearts

full stomachs

in a land where nothing but concrete grows?

In a land where the soil is a bed of nails

and it's most beautiful flower blooms

on pins and needles?

There's hunger on the faces of those I love

those who journeyed with me,

but I,

too busy shoveling dust into my mouth to

quiet an ulcerated stomach,

do not notice that the answer lies

right there, in their reddened watering eyes.
