Leftover Leaves

Leftover Leaves

A Poem by Molly Cara

Was Satan excommunicated and all that?

Or did he leave of his own volition?

Pack his suitcase full of fire and some underclothes

When no angel would sign his petition?

The leftover leaves are the ones I love

The ones who chase me where the

Blackbirds congregate in public prayer

And I know they know which one is the Rabbi

Though each bird in figure and form

Resembles all of the others;

So it is and so it has been a long

Time which is what I would say

Were you to ask:

How long could you last in my smile?
