Father

Father

A Poem by RFDIII

As a child you taught me all about nothing.
Not fighting nor fussing -
Just all that is nothing.
I held no grasp of just what you were.
No care came to me, from you - a blur.
The silhouette that sought the exit of my eye.
For first stood a figure...
And then stood a lie.
In spite,
I never missed you.
But I question my methods of missing.
No love blooms for transient men.
But I can't be so sure of the hissing.

The hissing refers to the void of space left open by someone who has chosen to abandon you. It's not quite hatred, I'm not fond of hatred. I'd more accurately describe it as an emptiness, or lacking.

I totally get this wonderful write. I will be requesting a few other established writers to review this. Well done my friend. Many will relate to this great write. I attempted a similar write "A Prayer for Father" you may want to check it out. I have to tell you... this:

In spite,
I never missed you.
But I question my methods of missing.

shows the desire to not miss him but the wish that there was no feeling of wanting a father (if he is what a father is). the conflict you explore here in so few words is just brilliant. There is so much more here that is so good I just could spend a lot more time on this... but alas life calls...

Thank you for letting us into your world--if you don't, why would we ever get a glimpse of the reality of a child with an AWOL father? how would we? Every time a child still trapped inside the adult shares his thoughts we get a little closer to some degree of understanding...
I took the hissing for the air leaking out of a closed little universe locked inside--- for the release of memories seeking the father, the author, of those feelings

Hard to know what to feel with a AWOL father. I had one I didn't know till I got older and learn why he was gone. Age teaches us. Life is hard. If we are lucky. We create friendship with our elders. Even a bad one can show us the way to be a good person. I like the honest and direct thoughts in the poem. Thank you for sharing.
