Little Angel

Little Angel

A Poem by M.K

My little angel, it was not meant to be.

You fell from the sky into our laps

But you did not survive the fall

I still remember the day

When I was asked to give you a name

I said, “Jesse, of course.”

At the young age of four

I knew who my sister would be

She would be my best friend

My comforter

My cuddler

But then came the day when our mother woke

To spots of brown

She cried for days and days

And vowed never to try again

My little angel, we will never see your face

Or find that you have brown eyes

But you are still here with me

You wipe away the tears that I shed

You hold me in the shadows of darkness

I hold you here in my heart

Until the day we meet

Will you have grown?

Or will you still be my little angel

The size of my thumb

Little angel, she did try again

You have two siblings

Who never knew the pain of losing you

You know of the third, for he lives there with you

My little angel, I have dreamed of you

Dreamed of the future that might have been

Seen the life you might have led

But, little angel, it was not to be

This world would have broken your spirit

I see now, that you are better off where you are

Then in this cold, cruel world

Little angel, you would have grown old

In a world full of hate and violence

Where it doesn’t matter your age

It matters what you were wearing

Little angel, you are safe

And you are here with me

Every step of the way
