Searchlight

Should the realm of our opinion be a laissez-faire dominion

or more a chance to fuss ‘n feud and manifest an attitude?

Isn’t it appalling with so many calling

out for fairness, pointing to the unawareness

that the things we think we know with sureness

suffer from a lack of pureness

in the quality of being real and true?  What then do we do?

Some believe that their perceptions are such error-free confections

filled with clarifying lessons that they’re destined to remain unquestioned.

Naturally, some awkward scenes arise amid the memes and in the guise

of disputation when these digital archangels get the urge to strangulate

as conversations culminate

in casting of aspersions at the persons they interrogate

in cyberspatial colloquies bereft of all apologies.

A clash of undefiled thumbs occurs

replete with racial/ethnic/gender slurs

that do but shouldn’t please us

cause in fact they are a grievous

harm to politics as measured by the counts of clicks

through disembodied hyperlinks

that make us blink and wink at us

and trip us as they muddle us yet still don't seem to trouble us.

Can it be surprising when philosophers, apprising

say the daylight needs a searchlight to identify the twilight?

Or that pre-ordained conclusions boasting logical contusions

do the goosestep in profusions

to create a ceaseless fracas and a fracturizing focus

that assuredly has woke us to the need for diagnosis

of this sickness that afflicts us and now threatens to eclipse us?

(lento):

Is there now a new Columbus

lacking map or compass

who can spring from deep among us

to embark upon a voyage to locate the source of spoilage

of our once-robust ability to reason with tranquility

whose evident fragility besets our sociability

so that time we spend on our devices

makes us pay the highest prices

but manages to not suffice us.

Great is our unlearning and the bliss

we hoped would emanate from all of this.

Montag, this excerpt from your brilliant write is the bane of many societies in the world. In my own country Nigeria, which is homogeneously black with 250 ethnic groups, people see issues from their own 'flawless' viewpoint, which is the reason why my country is gradually being drawn to the brink.

You understand me perfectly. I think we in the US are getting a glimpse of the brink as well.
