Caper

Caper

The most beautiful music is imaginary

not fanciful or unreal, but lifted on currents of thought.

Ask Debussy

it is not sermons we want, but hymns

not cattle but birds.

Generals of ancient Greece

noted with wonder the pattern of avian flight

the morning of a battle

the afternoon of a faun.

A boy once put on a suit sewn in feathers of a swan

leaping from a hill longing

for an ephemeral, gliding sound

but warbled, amid the wreckage on the ground

songs of gravity and upset

at the pretense of his pirouette.
