Immortality

Immortality

A Poem by Avery Colt

Certain loves are like the Bible

Half in Greek and half in Hebrew

Different bases, different tongues

But still the one continuum.

These differences in who we are

Should not offend your sense of form

Love comes not upon us from the stars

Not earned on earth nor logic-born.

If we had sought it by a plan

Lay awake the long night scheming

Could even all our hopeful dreaming

Fuse a better girl and man?

So we’ll be one who were divided

Mindless of all fine distinction

Known through time for our delights

In love until the last extinction.
