Let them go

I quoted Khalil Gibran and this poem is from my life experience. I hope you enjoy my free verse poem!!!!!

“If you love someone let them go”
His last words
He left and disappeared
First she was in despair
But then relieved
The pressure was off
It was over

Later the full quote was found
“And if they come back they were always yours”
Was she supposed to find him
To go back to the way things were
He was never good with quotes
She took a breath

There were good but the bad was more
She carved a new life
A new way of thinking
There is no going back
The only way for her is forward

I can tell this is from a personal experience. The mixed bag of emotions feels realistic to a situation like this. Easy to follow and understand, and I liked the "He was never good with quotes". Try mixing up your phrasing a little. The pattern of "He left and disappeared" "She was in despair" "She carved a new life" feels a bit repetitive and takes away from the expressive potential of free verse poetry. Forget about a structure and just put your feelings in it. Stay strong and keep fighting the good fight :)

I think this saying is very misunderstood. It is very easy to make someone we love the center of our lives, to leave the reins of our lives in their hands. And if loving someone makes us forget ourselves, we should step back a little. If you can protect your own boundaries and love, that person does not trigger any insecurity in you. Instincts always tell the truth! Listen to them. These are my opinions, I have always perceived this statement that way.
I really liked your poem, it's very successful to be able to write a poem around a quote and an event..

I know that this poem can touch every reader at some point, I felt the need to express my own thoughts, cause so powerful!
