Earth's Black Blanket

Earth's Black Blanket

A Poem by Diana Lynn

I sit upon my creaky, old porch,

watching silently as the sun slowly falls

back upon the world, darkness creeping

over the sullen land.

I shiver slightly as the cold air

follows the darkness, playing tag on my lawn,

while the minutes go by

and the sleeping time is close at hand.

I pull my sweater closer against my body,

keeping warm and I look up

into the sky, the big, black sky

with millions of radiant dots

covering her beautiful, dark face.

I begin to get up, slowly but surely,

when my mother calls me in,

taking one last glimpse

at the beautiful outer space.

I find it odd that darkness can be our comfort and also one of our greatest fears. But there is truth hidden up there in the night sky. When the blanket falls down to Earth we can see the true beauty that space has in store. The night sky is inspiring in that it has limitless potential, much like you do. Thank you for a positive piece.

A darling elaboration on a wonderful moment of setting sun and twilight and serenity.
