Drowning

Drowning

A Poem by Diana Lynn

Meeting your eyes

                                From across the lake

                                That is you

Stepping in

                                The shallow waters

                                I come to you

Getting closer

                                You pull away

                                Backing slowly in a corner

Finding it difficult

                                To make my way

To you as the water deepens

Pushing hard

                                I swim to you

To hold you in my arms

Crying out

                                You slip inside

                                Of the blackness

Calling your name

                                I dive in after you

                                 To rescue you from yourself

Swimming to shore

                                I hold you close

                                And wish your demons away

love and sacrifice go hand in hand. It takes such great effort to continue, because as you can see from the waters, it will not be easy. I feel like this greatly expresses that feeling of coming close to losing sight of it, but because it takes effort from both involved, as long as you are both committed, one cannot drown without the other drowning as well.

I really like this structure, and the way it all snaps together. Your use of language serves it well.
