Ending an Eternity

Ending an Eternity

A Poem by MrRadish
"

A simple poem - or a song, if you wish, as it happens to fit the tune of 'The Star of the County Down', a lovely old Irish folk song - about letting go.

"

The starlit sky in her perfect eye

Is as a holy frost.

It sets things right on the darkest night,

A beacon to the lost.

A fairer girl or a finer pearl,

The world has never made.

Her tender gaze sets the heart ablaze;

The flame will never fade.

Her silken hair and her skin so fair,

Her smile so soothing, sweet.

Fills me with peace, a loving release,

With her my life's complete.

But she must choose even if I lose

This jewel of my life for good.

Should this love of mine for another pine,

I'd aid them if I could.

It's oft forgot that love is not

To own somebody's heart.

And when best thing's to endure the sting,

You sadly help her part.

Her silken hair and her skin so fair,

Her smile that so soothing, sweet.

Filled me with peace I must now release,

So her life may be complete.

This loss can be what makes you free

And once again your own,

Regain your sight from the parting light

You weeping chased alone.

And day by day do you find your way,

Inside you feel like ice.

It's right to grieve when at last you leave

Your empty paradise.

Her silken hair and her skin so fair,

Her smile so soothing, sweet.

Is left in peace after my release,

Now alone I am complete.
