Dear my darling diary

I’ve bared my soul to you

You’ve heard my darkest secrets

You don’t judge like others do

Yet you’re a cruel reminder

Of things best left unsaid

Your torn and tattered pages

Still fill my heart with dread

I sit here tonight and read you

With tears upon my face

Curled in around my loneliness

Wrapped in a cold embrace

You’ve never said a word to me

I never asked you to

You’ve just held my demons;

Held them better than I do

You’ve never tried to blame me

Or judge my actions fair

You’ve never tried to leave me

I know you’re always there.

You’ve no tongue to utter

The words I fear you’d speak

You’ve no brain to judge me

If you did you’d know I’m weak.

I hide my thoughts inside you

So I don’t have to fight

I share with you my devils

So I can sleep at night

But now I must confront them

And what a battle it will be

I have to let them go now

And rebuild what’s left of me

I’m scared of what I’ll find tonight

When I turn to gaze within

I know I have to do it

But I’m afraid of who will win

I know that I am shattered

You know what I have lost

But now I must regain my life

No matter what the cost.

So as I write this final page

These words no one will see

Consider it my glad goodbye

To who I use to be.

I touch the match to the first page

I watch the growing flame

Consuming all that’s written

Freeing from the shame.

Now, as you lay smoldering

Amongst the burnt debris

I’ll sleep a peaceful slumber

No demons, just me.
