Tense

Tense

A Poem by Mry

Should I be gentler with myself?
Would the world fall apart
if I relaxed my muscles,
the muscles in my back
and behind my eyes
for a moment?

I've come to believe
that the world hinges
on the tension in my spine
(But I have also believed
in Athena and Zeus
and all the rest).

we're all afraid to take risks.
I find that I'm afraid to change the volume of the radio in the car from the level I always keep it at, because I have the fear that something terrible will happen.
We all have these little insecurities that aren't going away until we prove them wrong.

it's like we're waging a war with ourselves, and I just find that so ironic.

you express your thoughts well.
