Far More Beautiful Than I

Far More Beautiful Than I

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers

Far more beautiful than I

Two doors down

and you hadn’t a clue

that I was the tabby cat

and the philodendron upon the sill

you were Sunday football games

and the vast delivery of pizzas,

whose friends were a mix gender

of low rise jeans

and Sam Adams

We merged occasionally

in the laundry room during the rinse cycle,

you complimented my taste in jazz

and the copper shine of auburn hair,

taking inventory of my eyes

and the nakedness of the third finger

of my left hand

you hadn’t a clue

that I was breakfast at tiffany’s,

that I am the happiest in the coldest of winters,

and cry at the singing of Auld Lang Syne

that I still wish upon falling stars,

and read poetry by Keats to his beloved, Fanny

that I love orchids

because they are far more beautiful than I

could ever be…

…will ever be

It seems to me this fellow was clueless alright :-) Wonderful imagery Kelly, just a joy to read. How you make everyday occurrences appear like a 'kodak moment' is just awesome!

You are too kind, Dara...thank you so much!
This was absolutely fantastic! I loved how you made the things around their apartments and their lifestyles who they were. In a way they really are who we are after all. I would love to read more like this. Thank you for sharing my friend!

...thanks, Mark!
I commend you for your ability and the complete feel to this piece. All wrapped up and sewn together neatly yet still leaving enough to the imagination. Awesome

Wow, Mary...what a way to make my day...thank you!
I liked how this rolled off the tongue...
the language thrown in there in the mix of things...
just gives everything out in the open...
all the clues a man would want from a woman...
and the flower --- an orchid...depends if one is looking for the flower ---
instead of the woman...I would say the woman...is far off the better of the two...
just in my point of view:

the flower is radiant in the morning...
and is even brighter by the mid day sol...
and by the evening lost its luster...
for the flower is no longer grounded...
by which she was meant to be in the first place...
together with nature her true soul belongs...

Oh, I don't believe that for a second, Kelly.....you are as beautiful as that orchid is inside and out. The fact you are able to write this sort of poetry proves that to me beyond a shadow of a doubt. Damn, GF, this could be the screenplay for a chick flick! Loved the imagery. Just fantastic! Lydi**

My pleasure, my friend.
It seems to me that this piece tells of someone who has not yet quite found themselves. Isn't this true of many of us and our neighbours?
Very moving write

How wonderful to have you here, Anne...thank you so much!
A lovely slice of an earlier life, well expressed here. It is interesting the perceptions we form of neighbors that we never get to really know. Nicely done Kelly.
