Dead End Street

Dead End Street

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers

Dead End Street

you’d think by now

i would’ve learned

that every attempt

to forget you

has become

a dead end street.

Some lessons we never learn. Short and to the point. I think we all have that "one" we can not forget. We are not willing or able! Sorry you were ill. I hope you are 100% now. Lydi**

Gello! You are welcome.
Your poem beautifully captures the relentless pull of memories and emotions that refuse to fade. The simplicity of the language enhances the profound message conveyed. The repetition of "you'd think by now" emphasizes the passage of time and the expectation of moving on, yet each attempt to forget proves futile.

The metaphor of a "dead end street" vividly portrays the feeling of being trapped in a cycle of longing and reminiscence. It suggests a struggle against inevitable thoughts that persist despite efforts to escape them.

Your poem resonates with anyone who has experienced the enduring grip of memories and emotions, despite the passage of time. It's a poignant reflection on the persistence of love and its lasting impact on our lives.

So good to have you here, Andrew. Thank you!
Welcome back!!! your brevity poem is very clear to me...it's so difficult to forget someone you loved ...you try and try and "it's a dead end street" that's because our memories are so sharp and every once in a while there is a flashback to a moment in time...your words are so true... and it happens to all of us....

Kelly!!!
There you are!!! I have missed you!
And this poem is why... So sharp, like the point of a stiletto. Every poem of the lovelorn usurped and replaced by six lines and nineteen words...
Okay, all you "Slit-your-wristers," give up now... it's been said, and better than you can, so find something real to write about!
(I don't think I've ever mentioned, but you have the best profile picture, ever.)

Memory can sometimes be cruel. There are so many things we wish to remember, but try as we may, we cannot. Unfortunately, some linger on and on and refuse to let us go. I wish, for you. that is not the case.

I appreciate your thoughts and concern. Thank you, Dave!
sounds like someone needs a new gps. not easy to let go. not sure which is harder to navigate - one ways or dead ends. both mean we're lost and going the wrong way. sharp and skillfully telling. it's not easy navigating the heart. ouch - sorry about your sickness - i know what that is like (the coughing). i've had bad lungs all my life - asthma, bronchitis, pneumonia. get well!
