-we had her-

-we had her- For our Sister Nyaradzo 'Nya' Mupfeki who left the family circle

A Poem by Baldwin Mupfeki

Of vivid memories in Bindura,
1993 l still cherish,
The then, young:
In 'glass' shoes,
white top, black trousers,
With hair combed,
stretched, knotted, backwards
With vibrant, lify face
To time, which has always,
always parted us!
Nev'r of it, there wasn't,
if any
Of lines I do pen,
Ones I can't erase
To put a lid,
Ones that keep recurring!
Of hazy memories
in Kwekwe;1993/1994,
crossing railroad,
near Stewarts and Loyds
On giant shoulders of time,
Our firmest; our finest!
2010, you 'called' frequently,
I, at the University-
Rejoicing, yes!
For thwarting 'space and time'
Sadly for 'both', to rebounce
To claim, to invade!
To shut us, forever more,
In agony, in despair-
Time, a withered branch,
dividing from
the fresh roots
of eternity!
Shall weep all times
For all know
We had her!
(RIP)
