The Streets

The Streets

A Poem by Mystik

The Streets
Drive bys and drug busts, the street life is no game

Watchin’ your homies die, all we have ever known is pain

In and out of jail, never had a chance at all

Locked on for so long with no one to call

Everyone here in jail got a sob story to tell

Out there on the street, nicks and dimes they sell

We do it to survive, not enough to pay rent but just enough to eat

Living in abandoned apartments with no water or heat

My friends all belong in a gang, it’s all we have ever known

Stealin’ and sellin’ to get by, behavior the law doesn’t condone

There is no way out, can’t get a job with a felony in your name

So we do what we have to do to survive, life in the streets isn’t a game

With such eloquence you write this, applying an appropriately unsettled and street-style undertone. Very well done Mystik :)
