Jesse

Jesse

A Poem by Mysty Rayn

You talked me into staying, I thought that you would too.

But then I got that phone call, and knew what I had to do.

I searched for many hours, cold and full of fear.

With every step I took, then fell another tear.

Quickly I prayed to my Father up above,

That he would fill your heart with a great amount of love.

As the night grew darker, my hopes began to drop.

As the night grew colder, we had no choice but to stop.

I quickly filled with anger when I found out where you'd gone.

"I just went for a walk", you said, but that walk was pretty long.

You brushed it off, as if you didn't care.

It made me stop and wonder, why the hell was I there?

I've tried so hard to be a good friend.

But what's the point, if you care not in the end?

Just then I realized I didn't do it just for you.

I did for me, yet all this stands true.

Your place in my heart will always be there.

And in that place, I always will care.

Once more, a good job of expressing the emotion and the mixture of hurt, sorrow and anger which are all experienced when someone we've trusted betrays the trust and worse yet, appear to not even care about it.
And yet the writer does indeed still have the 'tender place in the heart' for the other person... which shows a strong side of compassion, yet that compassion is so wisely balanced with the mental toughness to get out of a situation which will only be more harmful and hurtful further down the road.
