The darkness of the night was thick throughout Boston, Massachusettes. A thin fog floated over the harbor, and the harvest moon's light was reflected against the rippling surface of the water. Boston had reverted back to a style resembling the colonial era. The streets were dark grey cobble-stones, and the building were all three-story commodes of polished granite. The street lamps were large rought-iron pieces of artwork, as was the rest of the metal in the town. All the buildings looked the same, except for a different colored sign that hung outside each of the townhouses. These signs were labled with a colored shape, a date, and a countdown clock. On each of the signs the date read October 30th, however on one sign with the shape of a purple cresent moon, the countdown clock read ten minutes left until midnight.

A curtain moved in the window of the building as a girl of ten-minutes to sixteen years old peered out the opaque window. Seeing nothing interesting, she shut the curtains and turned on her flashlight. The light illuminated the figure of the girl for only a moment before she slid under the covers of her four-poster bed, pulled out a bright blue notebook and a pink pen, and began to write.

Dear Diary,

This is my first entry into the life of me. YAY! Sooooo, I'm Sara-Anne Walker, and I am a Majik...well, In the next ten minutes I will be! Let me start from the beginning...

About 16 years ago, adult humans had ruled the world in tyrrany, until a Wikka by the name of Oranthi used her majik to change Earth. She used a powerful spell that weakened the grip mankind had on it, and gave it back to the Wikkas. This is now called DDay, or Dust Day. Now, Oranthi was furious at all of the humans for persecuting her and the other Wikkas for thousands of years, so she banished all the humans to Work Camps, and the humans are now forced to manufacture all of the good the rest of society uses. Thankfully Oranthi only believed that the adult humans deserved this prosecution, so she took all of the children and teens under 21 years and decided that they would recieve a destined gift of majik power on their 16th birthday, and then be sent off to school. That's why I said I'm ALMOST a Makjik.

Anywhoo, since you now know about the situation I'm in, now to tell you a little about myself. I am five feet tall with brown-ish blonde hair.

Sara poked her head out of her maroon sheets and gazed at her dim reflection. Her pale skin showed no sign of a blemish. The hair she absolutely despised hung around her like a shroud. Her eyes shone in the light a dazzling blue flecked with green, and a grey diamond pattern as they reflected in the mirror. Sara sat for a moment, watching her eyes change from the dark blue to an ice grey, before she slipped back under the covers and went bact to writing.

I love my eyes! They are my best feature, and they even change color. I am very smart, especially since I got top grades in Boston Fundamentals Primary School. My best friend is Derek McKenna. He is my ginger, and we literally do everything together. He runs away from the neighbor's vicious PittBull, I chase after them with a stick. Life goes on...

The counter on the sign made a loud ticking noise, indicating there was only a minute left until she had to leave her old life behind.

I have to go. It's almost my birthday: Halloween. (Best birthday ever!!). Time to start my new life as a Majik. I hope I leave an impact on this world! TATA!

-Sara

Sara turned on her side lamp, threw her diary into her open suitcase, sealed it, and gave herself one last look at the outfit she was wearing. A white tank top and jeans with black flip flops. Simple, yet nicely done.

The buzzer went off as the counter hit zero, and all the doors of the orphanage swung open. Sara gave her dismal room one last look before picking up her suitcase and turning around, leaving her old life behind.

Very nice going! I'm really liking it. A question, why is the last line stopped abruptly?
