Street Zen

Street Zen

A Poem by N.J.Hartman

Street Zen

                       a banzai tree

                                    sat in a window

(the window I pass every Monday)

                        until one day there

                   stretched a cat

in its place

                        (where the banzai once sat)

            and I paused to

                  ask it, what happened to

                         that tree?

            but it yawned

and kept yawning

            and yawning in the window

                                    and it looked to me

                                    with eyes

                              that said

                        "what tree?"

I read your other poems as well but this is somehow my favourite (along with Monster, I). I really like your style.
