At the Market Place

At the Market Place

A Poem by N.Sevilla
"

Stumbling upon your first love, years later.

"

I saw you at the market place the other day.

I froze for a moment, like ice.

You didn’t glow like some sort of angel.

Your hair was up in a messy bun

And sweats covered your legs.

But you looked beautiful.

There was a softness in your eyes

That you never carried when you wore

Long flowing skirts and

Tight ponytails.

I’d say that the look you had,

With your brows furrowed with concentration

And your face slightly less childish,

Suited you so much better than what you had before.

Before, when you were so sad and so hurt.

And so young.

And so in love.

In love with me.

I saw you, your eyes, the emerald greens I used to know.

I knew you fell in love once more

And it suits you, the way you wear it.

I could not help but smile,

That day in the market place,

To see my first love finally smiling and content,

Until my wife gently took my hand,

And guided me away.
