Heed My Words

Heed My Words

A Poem by N.Sevilla
"

When you try to give advice to those younger

"
They do not know
Eyes, innocent, regardless of what they've seen
Too young to understand the words we say

We warn,
Plead,
To heed our words
Even though we were once that age
And know they will not listen

Because at that age, they are invincible
Gods above making the same mistakes we did
Until they trip and fall
                             fall
                                fall
Down to the depths of Hades
Exactly as we did.

A quick poem I wrote about how we try to give advice to those younger so they won't make the mistakes, even though we know they won't listen just as we didn't listen back then (makes me sound so old even though I'm not).

You know this is absolutely true. Each generation believes they are invincible when they are between the ages of 15 - 25. No amount of advice is going to help. They have to experience things the same way we did to believe it all....to learn lessons. Perhaps that is for the best. Hindsight is 20/20 and as older adults, we can see the path they are taking will be dangerous or foolhardy. I liked this a lot. lydi**
