Death at a Shooting

Death at a Shooting

A Poem by N.Sevilla

The cold linoleum ground,
Hard against my cheek,
Blocking my ear so that
I could hear the soft
Thump, thump
Like a feather in my chest.
Thunder and screams,
All so distant,
But my thumping heart
Is here
Singing my eulogy.
The warmth spreads from
My stomach to my finger tips.
Liquid acidic scarlet
Blooms like a flower
Through my shirt.
Like poison it spreads,
Staining the white ground,
Warming my cheek with
The syrup of life.
Breaths come ragged.
Chest rises and falls
Like waves in a storm.
A hurricane.
Dark clouds surround my vision.
I search for the light
I've been told to see.
Nothing,
But the florescent lighting.
Clouds close in
My song slows to an end.
Whispering drums.
Thump...thump.
The bright lights.
The stained linoleum floor.
Then,
Darkness
