BECAUSE

BECAUSE

A Poem by Na'Chelle

Because you are young

Because you are black

Because you are woman
You should be thankful!

You have youth!
You have freedom!
You can work!

Because I am young

Because I am black

Because I am woman,

They say,

Squeezing my mind
Wringing it of self
To create such pretty shelves

And then I heard a whip crack

I broke it into threes-

This is satire of suppression
African Americans (I dislike the word black because we are not a color we are a culture K), and young, and woman are made to feel BECAUSE they are black, are young, are women they should feel greatful.
To me telling someone they SHOULD be greatful of their circumstance(which is suppressed in society) because of what they are re-enforces suppression does it not?

All are far more than what people tell you "you are..."

I really liked your poem keep up the good work I look forward to seeing more of your work. Now this poem I wrote talks about how people stereotype minorities. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed yours.

Cast like iron to a flame like rubber to a mold like clay to a oven cast, cast for my hair cast for my skin cast for my stature and my heritage within Then they wonder why we crazy why we locked up like animals up state for long stages, then they wonder why we cant raise our babies cant trust the system cant keep a lady, maybe its because of our past we don't know no better it wasn't meant to last or maybe its because we just don't care it's a sad sad state it wasn't bound to last or maybe just maybe its because we've been cast.
