The dream

The dream

A Story by Nadia Nel
"

A short story i wrote late one night when I couldn't sleep

"
Rivers run through the village, children's laughter can be heard from miles away. The sky lit bright with candle light as the shadows the shadows of the night danced in their flames. I stood on the balcony with a view of the town, hidden in the shadow of the dark memories of life. I have never felt so alone in a crowded place. I could hear him coming in neither of us saying a word, I could feel his gaze on me as he was moving closer and as his arms embraced me i lay my head on his chest.
"Did you miss me ?"
I could hear he said it through a grin. I didn't answer, just smiling back. We stood in silence before i spoke.
"I didn't think you'll be back so soon"
"I missed you" He said as he held me tighter.
I have never known love like this before. Hours past as we looked out on to an emptied street as house lights started going off and the town became silent, the flames died out by the wind, moon light now the only light brightening the town as the wind started picking up he went back in minutes later i followed.
"I should probably get going curfew is in a few minutes" He said as he was putting his army jacket back on that was laying on the bed. He embraced me into a tight hug, the kind of hug i would never want to end. As he let go i woke up. I only had the dream dream one other time never revealing his face...
