Bear Tear

Bear Tear

A Poem by Kiwi
"

Another BCD poem. This deals more with the history and current symbolism of the snake.

"

I remember I was at church at one point and we were listening to a Native Ameican speaker talking about the snake.  We had a discussion on how the snake can really be viewed (and in many places is) as a creature of healing and new beginnings vs. with the Christian interpretation it is a being of Satan that manipulates us into sin.  I thought the whole idea of it was interesting so I wrote a poem about the snake, apples, humans, and our blame.

---

They say a snake sheds its skin

To let go of old life and sin.

That in the growth comes wisdom,

A new life to acquire some

New experiences and inches.

These snakes appear to take a liking

To those round red apples, so striking.

That wisdom they attain flows forth

And passes into fruit of the Earth

That in turn reaches human mouths.

Our blame must fall elsewhere

And to the snake’s hide bear tear,

For our fault may never be found

Anywhere in or around

Ourselves.

This is an original idea, and you put it beautifully into words. (: The idea of the snake representing purity and a chance to start over, rather than sin, is an interesting idea & definitely worth writing about. Great job with this! ^_^
