Like Mere Statues Against a Clear Sky

Like Mere Statues Against a Clear Sky

A Poem by Nao Deguchi

The whole world inches

Towards inclusive speakers

That do not understand the questions

Of the common person well

We tried to widen our senses

Under the spinning of the sun

The entire community transitions

Like a lean and hungry encyclopaedist

Who believes knowledge saves all

But there was no good & decent politician

Only another version of holocaust

The whole world waits

Like never before, standing

Sucking on the ponds and lofty fountains

Where the humans spirit

Craves a watery mountain

But there was no vile antithesis

Of the distance between, rich & poor

Only the extreme of competition

The tragedy of meditation on formless crowds

Unemployed and anxious

Carrying their hearts, on heavy-feet.

Yes Alan, I think the rich make 10 times more than the poor in most places. It's a sign of the doom of our times, there is too much consciousness in the world for this to keep going on indefinately.

I like the sound of your fourth stanza, the subject this line Of the distance between, rich & poor has been playing in my head for some time I have yet to find the words to write.

About
I will go to great lengths to encourage writers of Asian origin. Of these, Indian are my favorite. They have a beauty of sentiment that is not replicated in english. I do not like to leave a trace.. more..
