The phantom of Fall

The phantom of Fall

A Poem by Moonie

All seasons are good enough for birth,
Autumn-the best for dying...
The memories of Summer are now buried,
under the graves of our lies.

 In my veins,
flow the sweet scents of apple peels,
        reddened landscapes,
and the drone of humming bees.

Shall we call the pods dried up?
~like black pearls on a sea bed~
Grapevines-- their ghosts still hang from overhead.

 Merry Autumn time!

~Spurn thou not our little gardens,
Take walks with us, near the fountain.
And the magic shall reveal itself onto you...~

All metaphors forgotten,
The dead things stay dead,
and the living end up dying.
Oh why, oh why
Nature hath not enough salves,
nor pills, nor herbs for all of us.

Its waters flow from Origin to Grave,
saddened by their own immortality.
Its constellations are fiery butterflies
that fizzle and flutter.

Someplace, Somewhere
Like a Leaf in a gutter,
I matured from childhood to decay.
Your touch hath purified my soul by now,
I am free again to sin away.

The Divine knocks on my door
are left unanswered.
The mighty paradise forgotten,
somewhere too deep.
My appointments with God have been cancelled
My soul decides to lie down here, and sleep.

The title drew me in, but once I started to read I couldn't stop! I loved this and I can very honestly say that. It was a joy to read. I loved the imagery you used and how well each sentence and verse flowed so beautifully. Just from this poem I know that I am going to enjoy reading more of your works!

Honest emotions splashed on the page here. The soul is dark when the weather turns icy. I am convinced of it. Well expressed. Lydi**

i read this on a whim
i found it filled with pleasant imagery and left me in a mystical daze
it riddled as a music box unearthed under mossy deadwood

thank you

Thank you for this amazing review! Muchly appreciated! Especially love the music box comparison!
If I must die let me not perish like a worm who lives his life beneath the ground eating dirt only to die unnoticed and return to the earth which nourished him. But if I must die, let me die like the maple leaves of autumn; bursting in glorious flames above the earth and drifting in beauty to the joy of children and passers by. At least I will have made the world a little brighter, once.

this has a sort of "pre-death" theme, in that your talking about death and decay when the real death is winter. I don't know just what I thought

I feel a darkness of the soul here in your sweetly melancholic poem. Yes, autumn brings the fall, and we all must have our eventual autumn. But I don't think it is 'paradise forgotten'. Don't we die, so others may live, and Life goes on?
