dumb little girl

dumb little girl

A Poem by moonfae
"

dumb little girl, she went out for a walk late at night....

"
dumb little girl,
she went out for a walk late at night
the moon guided her down a path
laced with trees holding poison berries
and ivy twisted 'round her feet
dumb little girl,
she never bothered to look for shadows
for creatures who wanted something to devour
she was so busy staring at the stars
that she didn't see the figure behind her
dumb little girl,
she trusted him when he told her his story
how he was just a poor traveler looking for a meal
his suitcase full of fine business suits and watches
was stolen by highway bandits and he was left for dead
dumb little girl,
he offered her the world on a silver platter
shiny jewelry and silk dresses galore
but she told him that all she wanted was for him to stay
so she could look in his dark eyes forever
dumb little girl,
she told him the names of deadly mushrooms
and what plants to avoid touching
in exchange for his stories of the big bad world
something she had never experienced
dumb little girl,
her mother locked her in an iron tower
she was too scared to speak to others
she didn't understand silly humans
yet still wanted to know how they worked
dumb little girl,
she trusted him so easily
and when he kissed her she didn't mind
her mind screamed at her to  run, run, run
but she finally had a name for darkness
dumb little girl,
in the morning she remembered
and looked outside her window
he was throwing stones with a smile on his face
and she snuck out so her mother couldn't see
dumb little girl,
she told him everything
how lonely and lost she felt,
how she wanted to cut herself open and see her blood
infatuation was a fog that she couldn't see out of
dumb little girl,
he told her nothing about his life
listened to her ramble with a frown
occasionally asked questions like why? what? who?
but hinted to some shadows floating around his mind
dumb little girl,
she told him about her friend
a beautiful kind princess
and he told her he knew her friend too
he was madly in love with her and would do anything for a glance
dumb little girl,
she wanted them to be happy together
so she held her feelings inside
convincing herself she didn't like him
but she loved the attention he gave her
dumb little girl,
he was chasing after beautiful boys and girls all over the land
and she was the only one his gaze swept over
yet she still believed he could see her one day
how could he not with a smile as bright as hers?
