A Modern Teenager

A Modern Teenager

A Poem by Nem

Like the chicken
crossing the road
I was a joke
no one found funny

Like the Rubix Cube
and those cheap mood rings
How I identified
was nothing but a fad

Like a Disney Movie
or a cartoon
I was labeled as a child
to be sat at the kid's table at family gatherings

Like the daily chores
and jobs as well as taxes
I was expected- by middle aged church ladies and businessmen-
to act like an adult

But I am no joke
I am human

My emotions are not a fad
just because they are represented now

I am mature
so please don't sugar coat

I am responsible
treat me how I act

Now I'll stop venting
or maybe complaining
As there are hours of homework to finish
and double standards to live

Author's Note

Nem
I am not sure if this is any good, but I needed to give the words dancing in my head a better place to be. First poem I've put out there for people to read, please give honest feedback. Constructive criticism is welcomed.
