My Brother's Pokemon

My Brother's Pokemon

A Poem by Tarand

My brother has all the Pokemon names memorized

and I don’t know how he does it.

There are names are names that make sense like,

Seel, Ditto, and Meowth.

There are cute names like

Cubchoo, Togekiss, Mew.

Tyranitar, Zebstrika, Dragonite "

all sound like killers.

Or ones that have me scratching my head:

Klinklang, Gothorita, Nosepass, Throh.

Trubbish, Garbador, Gastrondon

remind me of a trash can.

Volcarona

sounds like a type of alcohol.

And I can’t even pronounce

Regigigas, Phione, Deoxys.

I am in love with this poem!!! Mostly because I am a huge Pokemon fan and I can totally relate to not knowing how to pronounce names (Regigigas kicks my butt every time) and I always wonder how they came up with that stuff.
Your poem is reminiscent of a style I read a long time ago - I can't remember what it is, but I'll be sure to look it up - and I like how it flows. I'd be interested in playing around with this style myself - it's a modified list poem (and we all know how much I like list poems).
I can also imagine the older sibling shaking their head at what the little brother is doing, thinking it's a little dumb but being very curious about it at the same time.
You really have the makings of a great poet. I can't wait to read more of your writing!
