Traveller

Traveller

A Poem by Nethmi Kumarapperuma
"

A traveler's journey on the road.

"
I was once a traveler. I followed the road to home
My path was always clear, like it was set in stone
But one day when it appeared, a junction I didn't know
I took a turn and left the path that I had always known.
The way was narrow and steep, yet many had tread this path.
I thought the future looked bleak, the road ahead was dark.
On the road I found myself without a way to go.
I turned around and brought myself to the road that I had known.
Ahead of me, I saw the path as invisible as the wind
It brought me down on to my knees and I caved my sorrows in.
I laid myself onto the ground and looked up at the stars.
Unable to bring myself to travel, I stayed there in the dark.

Years have passed, my time is lost in the same old dusty road
I tried and tried to lift myself and "go on" as I am told.
I was ashamed how I, a traveler had failed to go ahead.
Filled with fear, I stay right here, afraid of what to do next.
