Too Late in the Day

Too Late in the Day

A Poem by Neville
"

written so long ago the words were stuck to the bottom of the box and had to be read backwards and upside down...

"

Too Late in the Day

We never

Knew just how much

He

Ploughed into our lives

Those

Trash cans and recycle bins

Not once

 Emptied by themselves

The

Grass did not mow itself

The fence and punctured wheel

We owe him

So much gratitude

But it’s too late now I feel

We just never

Guessed I guess and

Now there’s nothing left to say

By the time

That it dawned on us

It was too late in the day

It's tough for a guy to tell his Dad he loves him, without said dad getting all cynical and wondering how much you want, or that might just have been mine.
We never do it often enough and it's such a shame when you realise too late that time has passed.
Good job on rearranging the backwards upside down words. I once found a photo frame where the glass had the ghost of a poem on it from being cupboard buddies so long. Alas, it was too smudged to make any sense, so I'm pretty sure I wroteit 😀

It's the little things we miss the most when someone has gone. It's the little things that get done that we often don't see. That we take for granted. You reminded me of my Grandad who would polish my school shoes until I could see my face in them. He enjoyed doing it and would put such effort into it. I'm not sure I thanked him enough.

Welcome to the club Chris, I think exceptions to that rule are very few and far between

So this is about parents being unable to appreciate their child, or someone who died, or a handyman who moved on (or who was no longer available due to the pandemic). It really doesn't matter as this is a nice poem either way.

i don't think we appreciate the handyman enough...everyone is just as important as a King...our existence would be a mess without them...
