Mascara Daze

Mascara Daze

A Poem by Neville

Mascara Daze

Having recently introduced him

to navy mascara

The only exception she made to

cosmetics

Except for her lip gloss, on very rare

occasions, or when she went to town

She unconsciously bit down on her

bottom lip

And offered the very prettiest of

considered frowns

There she said, as an afterthought

And with one final upward sweep

Job done ..

Then leant across and kissed him

on the nose and cheek

There, that will have to do for now

She smiled, another masterpiece

Unsigned but framed and now complete

This poem has a definite 70's feel about it. I imagined the hippie clothing of both parties, maybe festival going or preparing for a party. I bet the mascara looked very fetching and was very tenderly applied. I had imagery of Marc Bolan filtering through. Maybe you were a fan? A nice piece of snapshot nostalgia Neville.

I have a thing for navy mascara despite the fact that I barely pulled it off. But I really love the way you described her little little things. Result of deep observation, I think. haha
The piece actually feels complete.

Yes, what Chris said 😀
This feels like if I had written it, it would have ended with the line "coo-cookie choo", as you rode a white swan down carnaby street "I don't know how that would work though... Maybe flew a white swan), with the definite hint of patchouli in the air 😀

"Blue navy Blue, I'm as Blue as I can be"----came to mind.

The forensic evidence, the kiss...left blue, when the goodbye comes, but she has left her mark.
And the speaker wears it proudly.

one never forgets the unique tinge of navy mascara.. I don't have quite the coloring to carry it off.. I am a cool winter wheat.. I need more of a mauvey tint.. always a bit envious of those who can..
